I feel very honoured to provide care to the people of this province in what is often the lowest point of their lives.
I have worked in Acute Care and your 12 hour shift consists of running for the entire 12 hours. You are unable to take your breaks, and if you do take a supper break, then that means you are going to have to stay after your shift is over to finish up and are not paid for overtime.
I am a member of Local 42-Healthcare with the NSGEU and have been a full time employee at Capital Health since December 2000. I have chosen to dedicate my career to the field of health care and I feel that this has been an extremely rewarding choice and I take great pride in providing quality patient care to Nova Scotians and residents across Atlantic Canada.
I have been a RN for 25 years and I do believe that there is a disproportion number of nurse to patient ratios. I have seen over the past number of years how patients stay in hospital are being extended because of nurses being unable to deal with non-emergency items.
